Well at least it keeps the headlights clean to make the most out of the amazing xenons. Daylight in the night.

I wonder if the new white LED's which are supposed to be the next thing in headlight techology are as good as xenons. Think the top of the range Audi A8s have got them as day time running lights.

That's interesting.
I'm gonna test mine tomorrow, since I haven't noticed it yet... <_<

jmcaiado,

Thanks. That's very interesting. It says the the washers work when the dipped beam headlights are on. It appears the washers also work when the side lights (angel eyes) are on too i.e. position 1.

I see you've subscribed to BMW TIS. Any news on BFD activation in UK (Europe) for pre-december 2003 E60s. If I remember correctly you got yours done right?

In a special issue of the BMW Magazine I read that it is possible to activate this feature on every e60 - so it should be in the software allready and just needs to be activated !?

Hi, i've not subscribed the TIS. Just bought the TIS cd's on Ebay...
Yes, my BFD was activated by the dealer. My car is a November 2003 build.
In order to get my BFD activated , the dealer needed specific software from Germany.

Iceman,
Well trying explaining that to the UK dealers over here. They say only E60s built from December 2003 can get the software activated. That's after discussing with BMW UK apparently. I'm not convinced by this. You may have seen my topic before on this on the forum. Planning to get a software update to latest version to try and prove the dealers wrong. Hopefully get this done in the next few weeks.

jmcaiado,
Great! You're going to be the source of all information.
As for the BFD I hope my car was built on the same week as yours. Mine was early November I think. The dealer said it was a week too early for the BFD activation. Think this is not true though.

I hope they fix this on your e60.
Post an update when succesfully solved, since there might be some others with the same issue.
And regarding December 2003... What I've heard is, that the European Union allowed the use of BFD in December.
That's strange.
What I would like to know is, how EXACTLY the BFD works.
I heard that it just works when you brake that hard that your ABS gets activated... But what exactly does it ? Are the fog lamps also going on, or are the warning flashers getting activated ?

I haven't had a chance to experiment but on US cars, the BFD simply illuminates the normal brake lights and adds an additional one (I think its the one in the "center" of the circular pattern of the taillamp.)

Doing it this way causes the following driver to see a much more intense brake light activation than normal.

One of these days I plan on having my friend drive past me in a parking lot or on my street and floor the brake pedal as soon as he passes me. Of course, anyone is welcome to beat me to this little experiment!)

Please let us know what exactly happens when it's activated.
Thanks in advance, Rudy.
