I think that's the general idea. You're meant to be focusing on the road and what's ahead rather than focusing on the screen itself. Once you stop looking at the screen, the double effect isn't noticeable.

Nice post guys! It prompted me to go shopping for an HUD App myself. After trying a few I ended up with "Dashboard". It also adorns the BMW orange color scheme as illumination.

That's because HUD equipped BMWs have a special windshield that has a polorizing rotation section for teh BMW designed HUD. If you move your iPhone style outside of the special HUD rectangle (left or right or higher or lower) it would appear as it does on non HUD cars. It's a pretty good sized area so may be hard to do and keep in resonable location to drivers view.
