Default Head light Malfunction

One of my head lights is starting to malfunction...The bulb is about a year and a half old, but sometimes it take me to switch off and back on to get it to work again. Could it be an electrical problem or is it the bulb.

Does it mean its about to completely die?

If so...any recommendations for head lights that last, and are brighter.

Current bulbs are aftermarket...dont know what type or kind, but the color is white and bright.

2007 E60 530I

Thanks

It sounds more like a ballast issue to me.

I would recommend checking both ballast and ACL units. I was receiving a left headlight malfunction error on my idrive. I replaced the bulb and the error message was still there. I then replaced the acl unit on the left and I still had the error message! I ended up replacing both left and right acl units before the error went away! Good thing I was getting the parts at cost.
