Head Cover gasket and cam shaft sensor replaced
Your advice or help is appreciated. I recently changed the head cover gaskets on my 07 e60 and In the process of removing the head cover I broke the right cam shaft sensor. Paid 400 to buy a new one. Installed and finished replacing gaskets, we put everything back together and it turned on I was happy, then all of a sudden the car beggings shaking and backfiring and I also get a warning light I can't figure out. It shows the car slightly lifted in the side with an exclamation point. Some more info I can give you... Is the coolant level is extremely low but I don't see that as a problem turning the car on for a couple of seconds and my power steering fluid is also low from disconnecting the pipes while removing head cover, I'm obviously not driving it or keeping it on very long but could that be why the car is going nuts or is it the sensor that needs to be calibrated. Thanks for your help.
Well check your air filter and your intake manifold. What kind of car stats are we looking at? Why did you disconnect power steering lines? WTF. What kind of engine do you have? i would assume you have a M54 engine if you are replacing head gasket now as these are the first engines put in and gasket should last up to about 100-130K miles easily.
Do you have a VANOS? Did you mess with it? Did you mess with Mass Air flow sensor?
This has nothing to do with coolant but add some damn coolant!
You may need adaption values to be reset. You can do this with INPA if you have it. Do you have an INPA compatible cable KCAN or DCAN(whatever car you have) and are you able to do remote desktop? I can look at your vehicle remotely.
Did you mess with the electronic intake manifold flap (DISA - Duel Resonance Intake System) ? Again, knowing your car stats would help most, maybe it's broken. It happens. Happened to me after I changed the head gasket on my car. Easily fixable.
Most likely if it is broken you would get shaking at low RPMs or HIGH...or if it's jammed probably both as the air comes in and moves the flap...i've always wondered if keeping the flap out would do anything but sadly I didn't try it. I already fixed and my fix is permanent so i can't remove the flap to test. But if you can that would be great! Just takes a few torx bolts and it's out...if you have M54
