Default HDD space for Music

Has anyone successfully swapped the iDrive HDD for a bigger one, to partition a larger space for music.. 12GB just isn't cutting it.

iPOD menu is ugly, and takes extra steps to choose a song
Flash drive takes too long to load compared to idrive HDD

Just wondering if anyone has pulled it off. Seems like it'd be possible, but a very expensive mistake if you mess something up.

There is about 24Gb free space available on navigation partition. You can repartition it or link /mnt/hbmedia/entertainmentserver there (not tested). If 24Gb of additional space does not cut it for you, your only option is buying a bigger PATA drive.

Code:
/dev/hd0t77.5 168632 11664 156968 7% /mnt/hbdebug/
/dev/hd0t77.4 13317836 673429 12644407 6% /mnt/hbmedia/
/dev/hd0t77.3 1148600 49881 1098719 5% /mnt/hbuser/
/dev/hd0t77.2 1710872 993777 717095 59% /mnt/hbdata/
/dev/hd0t77.1 3076400 1080783 1995617 36% /mnt/hbcddb/
/dev/hd0t77 58725528 34478181 24247347 59% /mnt/hbnavi/

dbond - Does the iDrive include a PATA controller? If so, do you know its upper limits - i.e. could it handle a 1 TB IDE PATA drive?

I've looked into this before. At the time the biggest laptop sized PATA drive I saw was 80GB. I doubt they make a 1TB IDE PATA drive. Everything is SATA nowadays.

My bad, I misspoke. The current drive in the CIC is 80GB. I was looking for a larger IDE SSD drive at the time.

iDrive is based on 80Gb PATA HDD. Extracting one from the unit is fairly simple. There is a service window in front of the headunit. I'm not sure what the upper limit but I remember people installed 320Gb PATA drives no problem.

I can report back that a trick with moving media to navigation partition seems to work OK. Considering that I barely used 20% of the original 12Gb HDD space the newly found ~24Gb of free space is a big relief.

Code:
drwxrwxr-x 5 root 0 1024 Jan 01 00:02 .
drwxrwxr-x 5 root 0 1024 Jan 01 00:02 ..
drwx------ 2 root 0 1024 Jun 10 2009 .boot
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root      0                31 Jan 01 00:02 entertainmentserver -> /mnt/hbnavi/entertainmentserver
drwxrwxrwx 2 root 0 1024 Jun 07 2013 pv_cover_cache
