I also have a Step and use it as a manual whenever I am doing performance driving. My 550 is a LCI car and my Step shifts at the redline -- even in you are in "manual" mode. Accordingly, in my car you cannot hit the rev limiter. In my 2006 Infiniti M45 Sport, the auto trans in manual mode would hold the gear and bounce off the rev limiter without upshifting. No so in my 2009 550.
I forgot to say I have to "hold" the gear shifter to keep th etranny from shifting on its own. Also I can preload the down shift in manual to take place as soon as software will allow in manual by pressing and holding the shifter unti lit actually makes its shift.

I was thinking about doing the TOD this Fall...
We have a fall event scheduled: Check in on October 11th (Sun) for drives on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings. We do other things in the PM when the LEOs and touristas are on TOD. Some of us willl actually arrive on 10th. Wives, children welcome. We stay in log cabins in the Gatlinburg area. We geberally have about 2-3 cabins at 3-5 bedrooms each. Our NYC and another player just bowed out due to conflicts. You are welcome to join us as are any others on 5er board. I'll try to post more details in the meets section. Let me know soonest if interested as we have to nail down our cabins soon to get the best rates and not have empties or not enough rooms. Some folks may come late or leave early. You are not required to participate all days, but we do need the room/night count to calculate lodging cost.

Slightly off topic ...

Can anyone tell me why V's posts, #2 and #4, above, are truncated? I have to scroll to right to see all his profound comments.

Other posts [#1, 3 and 5] can be read w/o a scroll to right.

Maybe I should ask if others see that???

sixcard
I have the same problem and can't read his posts without the tedious scrolling left and right. Ugh.

We'd miss out on all the bushes and grass on the left half of the sig if he did that

Heaven forbid. We need to see those bushes!

Can you elaborate/explain this a bit more? Its the first time i hear your can hold your shifter in order not to upshift or downshift.
What is the use to it? when do you use it?

Thank you for the extra info.

i have never taken my car over 4500 rpms. and i ALWAYS use my turn signals.
You are wasting a 3rd of your 535's great motor. I never abuse my cars but I occasionally enjoy 1st or 2nd to redline. On track @ VIR's back straight, I could nail it in 2nd, and let it redline 2nd, 3rd, and then 4th, lettting the Sport Auto shift for me. I did that 10 laps per session for 6 sessions through the weekend. The car loved it and used little oil.

I find that in most cases the redline is a just a suggested place to for amateurs to be concerned about. Us professionals, find that you are never living life until that point in which the engine is right on the edge of self destruction, and the needle is pasted on the far side of Vne.

I had mine in DS the other night with dsc off.....and punched it from a light. It didn't shift gears...instead it hit the rev limiter until I let off the gas. Kinda weird....I need to try it again......because the time before that it up shifted fine by itself.

When mine reaches 5500rpm I already shift up(when I am in a long stretch of road of course). Do you guys shift at the red line and have you revved it up to 6000+rpm?
try not shifting and let the computer controls get the maximum out of your machine!
