Have you experienced an iDrive crash?
I picked up my '08 535i less than a week ago. Ater starting the car this morning, I realized that I had forgetten the iPod. When I plugged the iPod back in to the USB adapter, iDrive crashed. Completely frozen. None of the iDrive buttons on the dash or on the steering wheel worked. The short cut buttons responded to touch but showed them as unprogrammed. Luckily the car seemed to be operating properly and I went on my way. While I was driving, I tried pushing the various buttons. After some 15 minutes, the screen went dimmed then blanked and iDrive rebooted itself. I'm not sure if it had anything to do with me pushing the buttons; but everything seemed to be back after that. Has anyone experienced an iDrive crash like this? Where's the Ctrl-Alt-Del in case it happens again?
The iDrive in the car we picked up last August crashed 5 days, when I was driving on the Handelskai.
It was giving directions (even though I knew where I was going) and then - grey screen.
It crashed a few more times and eventually the dealer replaced the CCC.
If it happens again, the car should go in for service.

While using my phone (via bluetooth) I ended the call on my handset rather than the idrive and apparently the idrive gods disagreed with my actions and locked it up for about 10 minutes. The screen had zero functionality for the time being and continues to display that the call was in progress. After about 10 minutes it somehow restarted and I was back to normal.

I had a ccc replacement. The screen appears to continuously try to reboot unsuccessfully. Car was at the dealer for a week. Bummer!
midnightrider, i had the same problem...they program v24 and that made it fine.
but then after update had a noisy idrive screen. not sure if it is a software or
hardware problem.
it seems like one thing gets solved and another one starts.
