Just so I can understand things more clearly, can you explain exactly what you mean when you speak of the "DVD hardware?" Are you talking about the DVD slot that you use for the navigation map disc or are you talking about being able to play DVD movies on the iDrive screen?

Probably the best thing to do is send a private message to Dominic http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showuser=1576 and ask him how much it would cost to buy his DVD adapter unit. You can also ask him what type of DVD player to buy, etc.
I think you should be able to watch the DVDs on either the smaller iDrive screen that you have or the larger one that comes with the professional navigation system. What I'm not sure about is whether or not you can install the larger screen without upgrading the whole car to navigation. (There's much more to it than just the screen.)
Again, Dominic or Hobi are probably the two experts on this type of thing. Also, hopefully some other members who've done this sort of thing can chime in and help out.
