You have a point there! Anyway it has to do smth with the mileage maybe we diesel lovers make the choice but u really can't subestimate the fastest stock diesel in the world!

+ i love the narrow rpm band! in a 545i if you're caught with the guard down (meaning around 1000rpm) u'r dead. Espcially if it's a manual because in a manual you have to downshift manually, and few drivers know to downshift without making and engine brake. In an automatic for sure it will change 2gears down. In my diesel i just have to accelerate even without kick-down. In other ways the sound of a big [etrol engine can never be reproduced by a diesel. Nor vice-versa the gas maileage!

It IS a great car, but not comparable with a 545i.

Not really. It depends on the driver. I can shift so fast, that you will not have an advantage in your d.

Yeah i still support it...with some rezerves because i used to be a petrol fan...but because the price is higher and higher on the gas i was forced to take other options into considerations. And as anybody can see the diesel engines keep improving and improving in both performance and fuel consuption. I would like to see a V8 diesel in the 5 series with TT. Many writers even take into consideration the future of diesels into motorsport...

In marketing we call this discussions; the rationalisation of you cognitive dissonance attributes. In other words, you will never say you made the wrong choice by buing a 545i or 535d. To let us believe your are a faster shifter than anyone, I would ask; why I didn't see you winning from Schumi then. To solve this problem is to buy an M5

You are right about comparing a chipped 535d against a 545i being apples and oranges - a 545i costs ?4000 more than a chipped 535d

Top gear ran the 535d against the 545i and the difference was painful on the straight! :thumbsdown: The 545 left the 535d for dead and it's all on camera so watch it for yourself. The 535d has 60bhp less so no one can expect it to be as fast as the 545!
Ok at 1000rpm the 535 pulls better but we don't race like that do we?
If it was all about torque then a lorry/bus would be the fastest vehicles on the road.
