Unfortunately, I believe the short answer is not or at least that is the answer at the moment.

I did see that post but I was hoping it was just a BMW employee that does not know what he is talking about. Like I said earlier, maybe they will put it in the 2010 model, or later in the model year for 2009. I am a tech geek so these things get me excited. I always like to have the latest and greatest, if you know what I mean.

Do you know how many times I've posted here that the 2009 5er is not getting the new iDrive though?
I am not trying to be ignorant nor do I scour this forum for hours looking for answers.
But until the cars start showing up with or without the new equipment, I rather go on actual proof than heresay.
I understand now that the 2009 is not getting the new software.
Thanks

The launch cars for the new CIC are the 1er and 3er, followed by the 7er. The 5er is not getting the new hardware.

I guess one of my gripes is that since the 2009 1 and 3 are getting it, why not the 5? Maybe b/c the new system has a 10 in screen and that would require a larger openeing in the dash, thus making a whole new dash mold? Since the e60 has gone through its LCI, maybe they do not want to change things in the factory.
Since the 2009 3 is a LCI, maybe this was ok for BMW to do?
Of course this is just me guessing.
Since the screen is now 10in, instead of a 8.8 inch, if they ever put the new system in the e60 (2010?) it seems that a retofit may be even more unlikely now than ever. Unless the 10 inch screen fits into the dash window they have currently, or if the system would work with the old monitors.
If somebobdy could find a way to make it work, it sure would be expensive. A new screen, a new controller, and a new CIC/CCC unit, plus whatever else I am missing.
Oh well, interesting to think about though.

The 2009 is just getting the new controller per the post earlier in this thread.

Look at the X3. Still has the MkIV satnav for example. People are still buying them in droves.

The screen size isn't changing (except in the 7er Reihe). It's just a question of amortizing the engineering work across the remaining years of a model, I would suppose - or which models were a priority (an LCI or new model certainly would get priority over a model that's neither).

Now I would take the trade-off of the performance and driving experinece of a BMW vs. the latest and greatest technology in the those other companies any day of the week.
I love driving my e60 and it is a blast to drive. I came from a 2002 530 and I loved that car, my 535 feels like a rocket compared to that car!
Anyway, it still fun to think what if...
