I just saw a beautiful 750 today and I often mistake it for a e60 if I am further away since they do have the similar lines to some degree then I got thinking how the current 7 series is coming to the end of its run in this style and could not believe they have been making this model since 02 or 03 and to me it still is the sharpest looking big car out there and does not at all look dated to me and cannot imagine it will.

Something about previous bmws although beautiful were more boxy. With the nice lines of the current e60 it is hard to believe it will look THAT dated when the f10 comes out compared to now that the e39 looks quite dated. Even though dated a clean white or black e39 is still a beauty-not saying that-just saying it does look dated but I cannot see that happening to an e60.

a clean late model e39 540 still looks hot with sport pack. I never liked the new 7, so I would be happy to see what BMW does with the next gen. In the large lux class, Id say the A6 is beautiful inside, but boring on the outside, and MB got it right with the new S; well executed inside and outside is futuristic without compromising the MB look.

It is indeed hard to imagine the E60 looking dated. In my opinion, the E39 can still hold its own looks-wise today, especially the post-facelift models. They are starting to show a little ageing mainly, I think, as a result of other manufacturers (MB and Lexus come to mind) beginning to adopt the sharper lines that were considered controversial when the E60 was launched.

One can only wonder what leaps forward the F10 will be in terms of styling when it arrives. The E39 was a leap from the E34, and the E60 was definitely a quantum leap from the E39. BMW have set the bar pretty high for themselves.

The E60 received a lot of critisism, from people that couldn't accept Bangle's design, when it first came. The new Audi A6 came out just after that and many people found it easer to get used to that design.

Now, a few years later, the A6 looks old and the E60 still looks fresh and modern. At least in my mind.

As much as I like the lines of my E60, all cars appear dated when newer models come out. I think it is inevitable. I thought the E39 was a great looking car when it was in its run but now it appears dated to me. I think we are kidding ourselves if we think the E60 won't look dated in say 2012 or 2013, a couple years into the model run of the F10.

Agreed, in my mind the Audi A6 has always been the Accord of the German crowd - too conservative looking for my tastes. While the E60 is a current looking design - it will begin to look dated once the new model is out - always happens. The speed with which it begins to look dated will depend on how radical the new model is....just tweaks to this design or a major new design? Any spy photos anyone?

Totally agree , I felt that way about the 3 series. I actually thought the design of the new sedan went backwards but now.... Nope !

First when the E60 was introduced in spring '03 a lot of people said it was a ugly looking car.

Now the LCI E60 was voted the best looking big sedan this summer and even got some awards.

I though the 1-series looked bad when it came out, but now I think it's one one sexiest small cars.

But I still do not like the current E90, but the E92/93 is fine.

I doubt there is much difference in the style of the E60 and F10. BMW has almost always followed a revolution model change with an evolution one. Porsche employs the same basic strategy. 996 = revolution 997 = evolution.
