The only way to do it properly is to either install LCI halogens or xenons.
You can get T10 leds but they are useless compared to these guys below.

Xenons can go brighter but cost more than twice.
Or you can cut your headlights open and install the likes of Orions but the pre-LCI halogens look too dated, I wouldn't bother.

Yes..as Dracula says...you need to buy LCI halogen headlights (from 2008+ E60) like in Dracula's photo above. The existing ones you have which are the same as what I got will never look like the LCI angel eye ones...

-Buy LCI Halogen Headlights
-Buy or make retrofit cable
-Buy 10w LED Angel Eyes
-Buy HID H7 kit for your main beam.

I am doing the same upgrade...can't wait till I install the new ones!

I believe it's actually March 2007+ at least in Europe.
Though the models from March - Sept 2007 have LCI trim, the engine is still pre-LCI.

If you have the AE with the BA9s type halogen bulb, then Orions will not work in your headlight. I was was going to have mine cut open and one of the guys at Umnitza told me that it would not work on this type of setup with ba9s halo bulb!
