Provleaf - sorry to hear about your car. I lucked out and was traveling that day - otherwise I probably would have met the same fate..... Keep us posted. I am interested to see how things turn out with your insurance company and repair shop.
As for Juris335's idea for a hail-damage prevention device - if it can also stop baseballs - there is a huge market!!!!! From parents of little leaguers, to Babe Ruth, High School and American Legion - baseballs are notorious for breaking windshields, denting roofs and hoods. Come up with something that will deploy quickly, stay in place, and protect the vehicle - and you'll become rich!!!!

I wonder if there is some type of "air-filled blanket" with magnets for quick deployment when one gets caught in the helpless pre-hail period- to quick-cover and protect the car. Anyone heard of such a thing?

Ouch!!! Sorry to hear what happened. I always fear Hail Storm, you just don't have any shield or protection from it. You just have to sustain it. Good luck with the repair.

Okay for now...thanks for asking. I finally dropped the car off yesterday so I am now driving a wonderful Mazda 6 now.
It's not a bad car...it's just not my car...
It should only take a couple of weeks to fix. The insurance company has been very cooperative so far. There are hundreds of claims in my area because of the hail storm so most of the body shops are backed up for weeks! Someone else I know has some significant damage to their car and the earliest they can get into any shop around here is the first week of August. I'm glad I know the people at the body shop I'm at. They pushed me ahead of a few people.
