Did you end up buying the 550 you test drove? or did you order one?

Seriously, that's not a bad move! I drove a black 550i at Irvine BMW - the one with active steering and sport package.
It's not really a big deal - I never overrevved it, nor did I do anything to it that it couldn't handle. These are BMW's, people, they are made to be driven like BMW's, not Buicks, am I right??

My Ride: Ordered 550i ED on 9/24/05. Titanium silver, priority one seating (black), steptronic, sports package, premium sound system, active steering, comfort access, power rear sunshades, navigation, head up display, rear door air bag

Let me get this straight. You don't want to spend the extra money for the Nasca leather but you also have a Porsche. My other car is a 1995 Buick. lol
Maybe you should add HUD to make your navigation instructions safer. Just a thought.
I am less than one week from taking delivery of my 550 in Munich. Nasca leather, nav and HUD. I have been reading posts for over two years waiting for this moment in time.

$1800 just for leather doesn't do it for me - I'd rather spend money on toys or performance enhancements (like sports package, or navigation (toys)). Plus, the leather is good enough as is - don't need EVERYTHING! It's like the people who option up a Mini Cooper to $68,000 - what's the use? The leather inside the BMW is actually very similar to that inside my new Boxster S - very 'grainy'.

That $1800 extra for the Nasca leather will also get you the ventilation in the two front seats -- admittedly it is an expensive option. Just another luxury option I chose to spring for -- not for everyone. The Dakota leather is probably more durable. I chose the Nasca for the feel and the ventilation. The HUD (head up display) is a cool toy that has the extra safety aspect of keeping your eyes looking thru the windshield. To each his own, I'm not a salesman and BMW is not paying me.

A toy that you need to give serious consideration. HUD - Head up display. Displays speed, navigation directions and other info. on the windshield in the line of sight of the driver. It is in the 5 series brochure, on the BMWUSA website and discussed throughout this forum. Do a search. Also, everyone that has it with Nav seems to love it and recomends getting it. I think MSRP is $1,000. I ordered it because I knew I would regret not getting it.
