Vibration damping pulley perhaps?
Groaning in front-end: Power Steering Pump -- low fluid level, fluid restriction, or defective pump or steering gear.
I will bring it up tomorrow with my service manager, not that I should have to.

Yeah...the same for me, but I don't think it's something we should find acceptable.
So what is wrong here......folks seem to be having the same issue, but what's causing it and what is the resolution? It looks like no one knows. Hopefully I will find out tomorrow, but I fear I'll be hearing the usual, "We didn't hear anything" line...or "It's normal."

It's still there, but a little better now! So, the olde3r the caqr gets, the worse this becomes!
In my case BMW HQ Munich was involved and told the dealer what to replace. Nothing helped.
I offered to give them the car to check it out in the factory, they refused.
I bet they know about the problem, but have no clue ata ll where it comes from, so they simply don't do anything. I know that this is not just a problem on the e60!!!
Ignorant idiots!

I had this and now there is apparently a fix recommended by BMW in which it involves adding some kind of additive to the steering wheel fluid. That sorted me out atleast.

They replaced the pump on my car and it's still there...
So, it's NOT the pump.

I am not feeling too confident as I get ready to leave for the dealership. Hopefully they can find some sib on it or something. Ultimately, it's a lease, and I can deal with it if I have to......thanks for all of the info on this.

......on another topic, I had never heard the new xDrive cars were not going by "Xi" anymore. They are all "i" models now with xDrive as an option. It's going to make models difficult to distinguish with only an "XDrive" moniker on the side, under the front fender cornering light.
