So what is wrong here......folks seem to be having the same issue, but what's causing it and what is the resolution? It looks like no one knows. Hopefully I will find out tomorrow, but I fear I'll be hearing the usual, "We didn't hear anything" line...or "It's normal."

I was looking through the TIS database under noises - i only have this option; grating/creaking noise or droning/buzzing. they both lead to clutch/ steering fluids and bearings, i'm trying to look at axel/joints but its not showing up anything( i'm not a pro-just starting to learn how to use the software). is it a M/T? is the a/c on when you noticed it?
It's all ball bearings these days....thanks for checking your TIS.

Part of the free maintenance package for 4 years is "It's Normal". Didn't you know that?
Kidding aside, I've actually had a few issues come up with the M recently. I received this same response every time. I recently took it to an independant shop who fixed the problem(s), but I had to pay out of pocket. I'm actually in the process of writing the GM and the Manager of Service of my dealership a really nice, nasty note. I doubt I'll be reimbursed. Fact is, most dealerships won't spend countless hours on a car to find the source of the problem that they've never even heard of before. If it can pass the, "It's Normal" test, then it goes back to the customer. Furthermore, I'm fairly certain if it means a "process of elimination" exam is to be done by swapping various parts that are deeply embedded in the car only to come up short, chances are likely that the problem will still be there when your car returns. Just curious, but how does BMW pay a dealership for the cars they work on as part of the free maintanence package? Does anyone know? If a problem is not found, does BMW still reimburse the dealership for the hours of labor performed?
Although we get free maintenance and have a 4 year/50K warranty on the car, I sometimes wonder how great it really is. My recent problem with my car proved to me that my dealer is completely inept. It's terrible because I am ordering our X5 in 3 weeks and am now considering another dealership to purchase my X5 from. I'm curious to see how the GM of the dealership responds to that in my letter. We shall see...
