While I'm spinning the driver's rear, the other wheels are on the ground.
Seriously, investigate the wheel bearings!!

Seriously, investigate the wheel bearings!!

Tried that one...now I have a walking problem.
Any ideas on cost with labor to have the wheel bearings replaced?

The best advice I can offer is to find a good independent BMW mechanic. The Roundel (BMWCCA) often publishes lists of those in their publications, or check their website, or ask recommendations on this forum. Noisy wheel bearings make a different grinding noise than worn brake pads / shoes (lower frequency) ... and often there will be some play that can be detected by a skilled and knowledgeable mechanic.
My biggest complaint with (poor) mechanics is they start replacing parts without FIRST doing a complete and systematic diagnosis. This frequently does get the problem fixed but good (and expensive) parts are replaced along the way!
However, if dis-assembly of usual wear parts is required - replacement is less expensive since assemblies are apart [labor is often more than the parts prices] . Classic example is reusing old fan belts when replacing a water pump.
That's about I can cook up for you tonight! Good luck with the fix - keep us posted!

Sounds like it could be bearings. I would try to get both wheels of the ground and give them both a spin. Also, where is the fuel pump located on our cars? I had a Volvo that used to make a real grinding noise when the tank got low. Just a thought.
Sorry that I don't have anything serious/helpful to add. Good luck.

My Ride: 2008 550I LOADED, all options except HUD and NV
+1 agreed, if the caliper is off and the car is in neutral, and the proper amount of KY has been applied to your rear, and it still grinds - it's the bearings. Sorry no idea how much it cost to replace or remove the KY from the rear.
