Thanks for all of your insights/suggestions. Nice to know I wasn't the only one able to drive over bodies of water - I know the car is fast but - geez!

I have scheduled an appointment w/ my dealer to look at the GPS issue. Given it is only sporadic and not easily reproducible, I hope this is enough of an issue to warrant a software update. Will let you know how it goes.

Here is SIB 84 10 05 of June 2005

SUBJECT
CCC Navigation Displays Incorrect Vehicle Position


MODEL
E90 (3 Series) with SA609 (Navigation System)

E60 (5 Series) with SA609 (Navigation System)

E63, E64 (6 Series)


SITUATION

The customer may have one or more of the following complaints:

Incorrect vehicle location is displayed.

Map displays only background color, no streets.

Route Guidance cannot be started.

The following fault is stored in the CCC-A (Car Communication Computer ? Applications)

"A062 ? No communication with Hip module"

CAUSE
Hip module software/hardware

PROCEDURE

Perform short test on vehicle.

Verify that fault code "A062 ? No communication with Hip module" is stored in the CCC-A.

Do not perform test plan for this fault.

Page right and then select "Control Module Functions".

Select "CCC-A Applications" from the control module list.

Select "Diagnosis Request/Navigation ECE" from the Functions list.

Highlight the following Part Functions:

GPS Antenna

GPS Date and Time

GPS Degree of latitude

GPS Degree of Longitude

Satellite Reception

Receivable satellites

Traceable satellites

Software version of navigation module.

Hardware version of navigation module.

Press "Display" button to activate and "Print" screen.

Press "Display" button to deactivate.

Disable all highlighted "Part Functions" except GPS Antenna.

Highlight "Software initialization, Hip module".

Switch over to "Component activation/navigation ECE".

Highlight part function "Initialize software fro Hip module" and Press "Activate".

Switch back to "Diagnosis Requests/Navigation ECE" and press "Display".

Wait until the display switches from Software Loading "running" to "successfully complete".

Repeat steps 4 to 6.

End diagnosis and submit FASTA data including diagnosis report.

Submit a PuMA case with the following information to the Electrical Group.

Printout before initialization (messages and results)

Printout after initialization (messages and results)

Wait for further instructions from the Electrical Group.
