Just got my regular email from my dealer. Refering to the cars as model year 2006, it lists the new engines for the 525 and 530 with detailed power specs. The V8 545 is referred as just additional option with no details. Wish I had the link for everyone.

So, dealers are getting promotional info from BMW with nothing on a 550 model.
Sounds like a 550 is not in the offing.

However, its too early to know for sure. BMW might suprise us yet .

Suspect you will hear about the 550 this summer and will come with normal MY changeover in September as expected.

I wonder if Rollee can/will provide any feedback from his sources here.

hi CVT,

just keep in mind that the dealers are the LAST to know about anything...i usually tell my dealer much more info than he shares with me...

i think some dealers, though, have admitted to knowing about the 550i, im quite sure we'll see them in the fall, and maybe a 540i too...

Tell me is thew 525i a 2.5L or a 3.0l.

There seems to be confusion as to wether the new 325i has a 2.5 or 3.0L engine, as one leaked BMW USA document says its a detuned 3.0.

Thanks

Hi

Email states " a new 218 hp inline 6 3.0L for the 525, a new 258hp inline 6 3.0L for the 530, and a 4.5L V8."

Detuned rumor sounds about right.

Or it could be a misprint, as it happened before.

I've been a BMW owner for a while and have owned a few more.... I've learned to not to believe in anything until you see it w/ your own eyes. Everything else is just a rumor...

cheers,

Very interesting

All european info on new 325i /525i say its a 2.5L engine
All USA info says its a detuned 3.0L

Both say 218bhp

Wonder why they whould make 2 different engines make the same power, one for US, one for the rest

I agree with the just rumor comment. Until I can order it I don't really believe it. I am excited about the prospect of the 550. I would think BMW would want to keep the knowledge of the 550 under their hat until they are ready to accept orders. The last thing they want is for people like me waiting for the new car release. It could impact their 2005 sales numbers on the 545. I know I will be very disappointed if the USA does not get a 550 for 2006 as I am now all worked up about it. However, I would still order a 545 and love every minute of it.

Actually, I have seen all of the preliminary info that the dealers have on the new 3 Series and yes, it is true: the 2006 525 & 325 will have a 215 hp 3.0 liter engine, with a 2 stage intake (as opposed to a 3-stage). It will still have the same magnesium components and Valvetronic, but will be slightly detuned v.i.a. different engine management and a different exhaust.
(Dinan, anyone?)

The reason that was given by Jon Shafer on Bimmerfest was that BMW could not get the engines certified for emissions here in the U.S. without raising the displacement. The rest of the world will get the 2.5 liter with the same (supposedly) hp & torque rating.
