My Ride: On order...2007 530ia,
Soon to be returned..325xi
Toy...2005 Corvette
Wife's ride...E350 4matic
Knock around..for the kids 2002 CR-V
Runflats are a compromise. I have them on my C6 Corvette and I surely want the ability to nurse that car back home if I get a flat in some remote area. But that security comes at a cost.

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
And if you haven't noticed, the M5 does not come with thumpflats.

sounds like it's worthwhile getting rid of the runflats. so, what needs changing? just the tires or this also include changing the standard rims (ie: new rims with non runflats)? any recommendations for the 525? cheers

My Ride: 07' 550i sport; Sapphire Black/Auburn; sport package; steptronic; navigation with R.T.T.I.; heads up; cold weather package; Logic-7; BMW MOST ipod kit; Motorola V3 snap-in adapter; rear heated seats and rear shades; anthracite headliner; sirrius sat. radio; M-aero kit; OEM style 166 Wheels with 245/35-19 front and 285/30-19 rear Michelin PS2s.
" The PS2's are much smoother riding and although the handling is "different", I think it is at least as good as what I had with the runflats."
how is the handling different? Does the car move around more in corners with the PS2s? I took off the 18s with run flats before delivery and installed 19 inch 166 M5 wheels with PS2s (245/285). The car wanders over rough pavement and moves around a bit when going more than 8/10ths in a corner. I'm just curious if the run flats (which the suspension was designed for) offered firmer, more no nonsense handling irrespective of ride quality - which every comment seems to focus on.
thanks,
DRP

I have replaced my RF's to PS2's as well, and am extremely happy with them except I notice some steering wheel movement while accelerating through tight corners. Could it be that I need an alignment after only 20k miles? I did not notice this with my Dunlop RF's...

I'm a bit confused by your post. Did you replace the standard runflats with non-runflats, or did your car come with 19" runflats that were smoother than those on your 545?
Question for those who have replaced their runflats. Is the temporary spare that the Sport model have satisfactory if you do get a flat?
