As a bit of clarification, BMW's M62 4.4L v8 engine was still present in Range Rover's until 2005. I learned this random tidbit from a friend who owns a 2005 Range Rover HSE.
Also, if you check wikipedia, there's a 2.9 L BMW M57 Turbodiesel I6 (2002?2006)Range Rover.

I am just speculating here, but from what I remember it wasnt until after BMW bought Landrover that BMW came out with the X5 and xi cars. So my asumption here would be the BMW actually stole Landrover's technology! Anyone care to confirm or deny?????
