Congrats Grogan!

Perhaps what some members don't know is that Grogan is very much in tune with his 545 and have managed a best 0-60 time of 4.9s (or did you get it lower I forgot). Then again, I wonder what he can do after a month or so flogging a 535....

Well, at least I hope to see some great numbers with your new 550 Grogan!

For those of you who don't believe my 545 is faster than a 535,flame away.As some of the long time members of this forum know,I have done extensive testing of my 545.I have made more than 200 0-60 and 1/4 mile tests. My best ever 0-60 was 4.78 and my best 1/4 was 13.24 @106.22.These numbers were recorded on a GT2 timer.I went to a NHRA dragstrip twice and proved to myself that the GT2 was extremely accurate. When compared to the drag strip timer the biggest diff. at any point was .09 sec.If you check dragtimes .com you will find I have the best time in the USA for a 545.I believe it was 13.64 at more than 103 mph. This was done on a day when the humidity was high and traction was poor.Weather has a large effect on acceleration times.
When I had the 535 I did turn DTC/DTS off.The first thing I noticed is I had very little wheelspin with the 535.Even if I brake torqued to 2000 rpm I had no traction problems.Under the same set of conditions on my 545 my tires would go up in smoke and wouldn,t stop until it shifted to 2cd gear.I have no doubt that my 545 would be ahead by 3 to 4 car lengths in a 1/4 mile. That is not a close race.

Car and driver got the 550 0-60 in 5.2s after a number of runs, and you got your 545 0-60 in under 4.8s with 35 less horse power and 30 less pounds of torque? Did you forget to mention you had it supercharged? The 535 does 0-60 in 5.4s 1/4 mile in 13.8-14s, compared to the 550 13.6-13.8s. Driving sports cars your whole life wouldn't you say that is a very minimal difference? Definately not 4 car lengths, 2 at best if that. It is statistically impossible for your 545 to be faster then a 550, or much faster if at all then a 535. Sorry champ

with all due respect, since you dont seem to have anything to offer other than a mag stats, why bother? the real world is much different than bs in a car mag and since you own none of the cars, how can you make any judgements?

grogan545 is absolutely correct in his assessment of the 4.4l V8, it is a monster engine...in fact, it is the basis for the next generation of V8s, namely the TT V8 soon to be out in the X6 and then across the ranges.

my 645ci has never lost to a 650i where its dead even with the winner going to the driver who gets the jump..the difference in performance between the 4.4 and the 4.8 are not very noticable at all, you'd need to be driving very hard and very fast to gain any noticable difference.

flame away but those of us that own the cars know the real deal

btw, congrats grogan!!

Some here are saying the 535 can MATCH the 550

Those who say it are gay, full stop .
I drove the 335i and I felt the engine is only a I6 .

match the 550i ? come'on guys, lets give the manufacturer's numbers some credit !

anyhow , someone with 40 years of experience can't be that off with his estimate...what the man is saying doesn't sound too unreasonable does it ?

Oh i believe grogan... Just check the past posts where we all shared 0 to 60 run times and techniques... but I was just saying that I can hear it already... the 535 people wont like it.

If there are any doubts about the achievements that grogan545 has done with his 545i, please do a search under "grogan545." I do hope people understand that the car is one half of the equation and the other half being driver when it comes to drag racing and achieving optimal times. I have no doubt in my mind that stock for stock, grogan545 in his 545i can beat any one with a 535i.

grogan545,
I'm looking forward to your runs with your new 550i.

actually i have driven both the 45 and 35 since it was either or for me and i chose the 535xi and have it on order. i have driven many bmws, 3s and 5s. This is the first xi for me, but anyways i highly disagree with grogan. and ill put my money where my mouth is when i get my 60 and eventualy when the tt8 comes out no doulbt in my mind ill go for that. but untill then ill stick with my tt6
