Facts simply do not support the belief that Audi is somehow a "lesser brand" due to its VW affiliation. In fact, a large corporate owner can be beneficial as long as the prestige division is not diluted. As I mentioned before, I owned an A6 2.7T and loved it.
Look at the massive improvements in Lamborghini and Bentley after being acquired by VW. I think the key point is that VW has a largely hands-off policy in terms of design and quality, while providing vast R&D resources and purchasing power.
On the other hand, GM (think Saab) really messed things up and Ford (Jag, Aston Martin, Land Rover LR3) has been mostly successful, although it took a very long time to fix Jaguar.

i am trading in my e60 , i am getting a audi a6 sline 2.7 tdi, dont shout at me but my heart wasnt with this car any more, if i could put the inside of an a6 in the 5 series i would be happy. I took an a6 2.7tdi quattro for a good drive, they dont drive quite as nice as the e60 but overall i will be happier, i just never connected with e60.
ps i will stay on this forum if i am not banned as i still have a great interest in great cars
any one know a good a6 forum

Good luck with new car, looks like a good choice. I too have an earlyish E60 which has not aged well at all. So many problems... If I had VW / Skoda build quality in my E60 I would be very happy with it!!.
I'm sure new E60 is a much better car, but my experience of a bad one has left a bad taste, so I'll be switching too.
