Going from 18s to 19s, do I need TPMS?

I guess you've never seen these. For FTM, there is none of these. But the newer models equiped with tire pressure monitor, TPMS is necessary or you keep getting error from iDrive.
Now that portion sticking up vertically(I know its a dumb question), is that the valve stem? All I have is the TPMS item that says has the BMW logo on it that is made by BERU. I bought a TPMS off a member on this forum. Also does the TPMS have a battery in it? How long do these last? Thanks.

Call me old school, but I never saw the use in TPMS, they are more hassle then they are worth. They really wont give you any information that would change anything. If you have a blowout, they will alert you, but you would know that already and its not going to change the fact that you have to change the wheel on the side of the road.

As for a gradual loss of pressure, well again I think you will eventually notice the change in the drive of the car or treadwear and so the monitors dont have any significant value. Then again, like I said Im old school in thought

Not quite true, you are thinking of FTM which is what I have on my car. TPMS does actually have a sensor in the valve stem to monitor pressures.
Exactly.

Yes, with respect, I don't agree. TPMS can alert you to a drop in tire pressure before you detect the impact on ride. It did that for me recently when I unknowingly ran over a nail and I was able to put extra air in the tire when the PSI fell to the mid 20's, preventing potential damage to the tire that would have resulted if I kept riding on with abnormally low pressure.

Yes you should definitely know Mel after today.

The TPMS probably stopped you from damaging your tire.

Had it not been for the TPMS, I'd have never known I had a nail in my rear tire last week. It leaked over the course of 3 days, and deflated down to 16lbs of pressure, not flat enough to notice by eye. So, I have to disagree that the TPMS is of no use.

-are they interchangeable?
yes!
- is it worth spending the $ to remove them from my 18s and get them mounted to my 19s?
yes, and it it really worth to remove
- do i really need TPMS if I dont have runflats?
yes, it is really important to have TPMS while driving, becuase we sometimes will not pay all attention on our tires.
soemtimes we even can't recognize the problem of tires immediately, so we do need TPMS helpes us to make sure our driving safety~

last time i didn't aware my tire underfalt problem, and it got car accident because of that. so after that, i install TPMS immediately.
from my friends told me, i bought my TPMS from Myers, the price is around$100,not expensive and pretty nice !
my friends said that they are from Orange TPMS amnufacture, and couple of my friends use their TPMS too~
you can think about that!

It's best not to mess with factory settings or standard features...

I am trying to buy a set of 172s that dont come with TPMS. My existing 124/RFT have the TPMS. A few questions:

- are they interchangeable?
- is it worth spending the $ to remove them from my 18s and get them mounted to my 19s?
- do i really need TPMS if I dont have runflats?

thanks.

I do not have TPMS in my OEM Tires (nothing on valve stems) but when on went low i got indicator in iDrive on FTM I'd fill it up and reset it.
I switched to aftermarket 19's and this was a question for me too. After unmounted an OEM wheel i realized i did not have monitors.
I mounted/balanced new wheels and tires and put them on.
Had Flat tire indicator in iDrive (FTM)
I reset it and it's fine. I tested it by letting some air out of tire. It worked with nothing attached to new valve stems.
So for me I did not need them.

Nice advertising! Unfortunately, I don't think you need to spend the money.
