Hey guys,

I'm seriously thinking of getting a 2005/2006 545 with around 30,000 miles on it. Honestly... also thinking the 2006 GS430.

Concern with the E60
1) Heard so much problem with the E60 (All Models)... spending too much time at the shop.. repair cost is high...
- Common problem fail clutch?.. door rattling.. computer/electronics part fail...
- I'm a newbie when it comes to bimmers.. lots of E60 owner claimed failing clutch with less than 40K miles? Comeon .. it's a german engineered and it's bimmer... WHY?

2) The new 5-Series is due in couple of years? say mid 2010 for a 2011 model(correct me if i'm wrong)? I think the next major change for the GS is 2012 and might be available in mid 2011.

Any input guys? please help.. will be checking out one GS430 and two 545i this weekend and hoping to lock down one of the deal..

both cars are very nice! depends on what you're looking for. IMO the e60 is more of a driver's car. Drive em both and you'll see what i'm talking about.. GL with the search.!

You're compare 2 completely different cars. Drive both and you will see what I mean. Honestly if you are worried about reliability the e60 has been pretty reliable. If you get on that is CPO then you won't have to worry about a thing until 100K miles.

Keep in mind that you are in an e60 forum so most of the support will go to the BMW...duh!

Drive both and buy the one you enjoy the most on your test drive. You can't go wrong with either car. They are both very nice. Good luck!

I say drive them. Then make the correct decison and buy an E60! HA

Seriously, if it is a CPO car usually you can get all the bugs worked out by the time 100k hits. IMHO the GS seems like a mom car.

There is not 2006 545i..... only 2004-2005

2006+ is 550i

I recommend you might test drive the 2006 550i too and there is not a big difference with 545i. Look a BMW with all options + CPO. GL!

Hey.. guys... every mentioned the CPO.... that only cover the deffective part right? not the tear and wear part?

Don't want to jinx myself but I have been very pleased with the reliability of mine. I think there where a lot of new car bugs with the software and things related to this, but if you have a version since 2006, you should be fine. If it is a CPO, you just make sure you have the latest.

Not sure about clutch failures??? If you are referring to the CDV on manuals - that is not a failure, just a owner improvement. Door seals have been improved and you will be past the run flat issues.

This is my first BMW and Ultimate Driving Machine is a good tag line. The Lexus is nice, but driving a BMW is UNREAL!

Yes you are correct... both 545i i'll be test driving will be a 2005 with around 30K... neither one from a BMW dealership.. so.. I only have whatever left on the factory warranty..

For a 2005 car.. the warranty should be out by sometimes in 2009.... is it possible to bring my car to a BMW dealership and ask for a CPO type extended warranty?

I have own many Jap car.. and all I can recall is that.. everytime I bought a Jap car.. I always tell myself that my next will be an european car.. and bimmer and MB is always on my mind..

Anyway.. does anyone know when will the next 5-series hit the market? that is one of the factor that might change my decision...

I don?t know how long you want to drive the E60, but the new 5-series will debute in 2011 (maybe autumn 2010)

If you want an actual model you can drive the E60 about 3 years until there are many pictures in newspapers with the new model. After few month you will see them on the road, but only few of them. Maybe after one year on the market you will drive a dated BMW, but IMO every day it is worth it

So if I could drive an E60 for only 1 year I will go for it !!! You will have much fun with the BMW, aspecially with the powerfull V8
