I have the LCI electronic gear selector and have noticed that sometimes it misses when I shift rapidly.
This happens on almost every gear position;
ie, from P --> D, or D --> R, or R --> D
Even though I have pushed the selector up or down it just stays on where it was;
or sometimes it just moves to N. (and I'm sure I moved up/down 2 steps!)
This happens quite rarely and randomly,
however it's really annyoing and can be quite dangerous since when one expects to move forward or backwards in tight parking spaces and the expected gear is not in, pressing the gas pedal could result in crashing into other cars or walls
I guess I can always double check if the gear is in.. but when I'm in a hurry or want to manuever the car quickly, it really drags me down.
Anyone else have this problem..?

Yes, same problem, not funny when you're parking and suddenly find you're not going in the direction you intended. Is this a software issue or just a slow response time?

Actually I checked into a BMW service center last week,
and they told me that they knew about this problem.
The service advisor told me that, apparently the BMW German HQ also knew about this and have come up with a solution,
which was updating the software.
However to my dismay no improvements.
This problem is actually quite well know in Korea with quite a number of users complaining of the same problem.
Some have fixed this problem by changing the gear shifter to a 'different, improvised' one.
(which was no longer available since now it is replaced with software upgrade instead)
I was curious if this only happens here since I haven't come across a topic regarding such here in e60 forums.

Humm thats weird that we dont hear much about this here... I know for SMG you have to make sure you're on the brake before you shift from N -> D or D->R or whatever... I would imagine its the same for Step. Maybe you have to be on the brake harder before shifting?
One more reason to stick with the stick! By quickly reading through the threads, I get the impression that automatic gearbox related issues are in the top four of problems/complaints raised by members (just an impression, no calculation nor statistics), if you add up transmission slam, issues like yours, etc. Which is kind of strange if you consider the fact that it is not a new technology, and all the investments and efforts the automotive industry has put on them.
