I'm rolling with 2006 atm and wondering if it's worth tracking down 2008/2009 dvd? This place changes so damned quickly, I'm routinely driving out in the ocean/creek as whole bridges and islands aren't on the disk. How accurate is the latest?

Navteq sells [as does your BMW dealer] updated DVDs regularly but it may take several months to obtain updated geography data so even a 2009/January edition may have road data one year or longer out of synch.

I would never think of it! I mean, I realize the disk costs 2-3 times as much as a Garmin or Nokia navigation system, but I'm sure it's worth every penny!

But before going out and spending a enormous amount of money for a DVD, I want to make sure it's good.

And Dave - system is great, still need to get that final update, but other than that, humming along nicely .

not sure i understand this statement?? this must apply to everything sold surely? to copy someones (protected/pattent) products is illegal, not just DVD's (unless you live in a country that does not have copy right laws)
ps: mine is oem bmw.

You really do understand completely ... and yes, there are countries where copyright infringement is a way of life and knock-offs sometimes look better than the real deal! (hmmm what about that balance of trade problem?!?)

Fascinating...

Anyway, the navteq site freaks me out. The prices seem cheaper but ehm, they don't list anything for the middle east. Well, when you change your area, it lumps the middle east in with EU/UK/etc but nothing looks like it's what I'm looking for. For instance: Built in, factory installed; BMW; model = ?? 5 series SVDO CD? Uhm.. that doesn't look like a DVD. But no matter what I pick, no ME. Hrmph. Prices seemed more reasonable there. $tealership wants to charge me $1,200 US for the latest DVD.

I snorted coffee on the guys counter when he told me that, and then, eyes tearing up due to pain, started laughing uncontrollably. It was a surreal and philosophically confusing moment. It was like the simple joy and satisfaction of doing a stuntman shot. It's painful, not the least bit dignified, strangely fulfilling, but when it's all over you get a vague sense the joke's on you.
