agree but theoretically bigger engine means eat more gas, right ?? but again, it all depends on the driving condition.? i have less mpg just because i drive around city 95% of the time.

Haha only if you drive like the way they drove when BMW tested the cars... Of couse they can swing any which way depending on your right foot. but as for comparison sake thats what the BMW tells us.

Ah crap I'm in trouble... I'll be burning 8 mpg then. Can anyone say Hummer? LOL

Well as long as i can get close to the tested MPG on the freeway then I'm happy then I'll know nothing is wrong with the engine... you know what I mean?

I have been checking my MPG over the last couple of tanks, and I'm only getting 15 MPG.
I only have 1500 miles on the car, drive 75% of the time in D, not that hard, but I like to get on it now and again in DS.

On the highway my compter averages 19 MPG, in the city less then 12.

Does this seem right?

One other odd thing I notice, my MPG meter when slowing to a stop with the brakes applied will swing all the way to the right ( min. MPG ) then to the left at stop.

I have never seen this on any other BMW I have owned, is this normal on a 545, has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks in advance DR.Z

I have a new 2004 545i sport, logic 7 and automatic. I am averaging just over 18mpg with a mixture of around town and highway. I took a 200 mile trip to the Florida keys averaged 52mph and with 27mpg. I live in Florida so the ac is going all the time, the car is always in sport mode and I like to paly a little too. This engine is very efficient. I also have an X5 3.0 which does not do as well as the V8 does. IMO its all about weight, and efficiency. The V8 engines in 2003 were not as fast or fuel efficient. My last car which was a 2002 330i averaged around 22mpg around town and highway combined and I drove it hard. But people lets be honest how many of us paid $60,000 for a car only to worry about the mpg. This is an amazing car, "NOTHING DRIVES LIKE A BMW"

During break-in drive from atlanta, 500 miles, average speed 80 mph, got 25 mpg. Now in city driving 21 mpg. Not bad
