I am in the same situation as you, fuel leaking from the filter (under drivers side rear seat, see attached picture). Can you share the part#s you ordered (is it 16147373523)? What else have you ordered? Also could you share the tool you used as well to remove the collar ring?

That is exactly what happened with mine. What I ordered was:

BMW Fuel Tank Sending Unit and Fuel Filter Assembly - Bosch 16117373514 - From FCP Euro ($68.49)
BMW Fuel Tank Sending Unit O-Ring - Genuine BMW 16146750467 - From FCP Euro ($11.59)
Fuel Pump Module Spanner Wrench Compatible for Mercedes-Benz BMW Audi Volkswagen VW Chrysler vehicles Fuel Tank Lids Adjustable from 3/8-inch to 1/2-inch - From Amazon ($15.99)

Make sure you get the tool first and be careful when re-installing the metal ring that you DO NOT TWIST the new fuel pump filter/strainer assembly. Otherwise you will damage the float and get an inaccurate reading of you fuel level gauge on the dash.
