I use BP or Shell 93 octane. When I pass a Sunoco, I fill-up with 94 octane. There is a higher octane alternative in my state, just no where close to where I live.

My Ride: 2005 525i Titanium Silver Metalic and 2003 325xi Jet Black with the Premium Package in both cars.
Sunoco 91 or 93. I experienced the same power using either one of them. On occassion, I have dropped to 89, really didn't feel any difference neither???

My Ride: '05 545i - scheduled for ED pickup in Munich on 7/22!
Cali doesn't get the highest octane because of their beaucratic environmental BS. In college one of my roommates from LA didn't even know 93/94 octane existed in the US.
BTW, you guys realize that American octane is not the same as European octane (and some other countries) right? Like 98 Euro octane is around 95 US octane or something like that. Has to do with the ron standard....too lazy to look it up now

There are three Octane rating systems, RON, MON, and AKI which is (RON+MON)/2 with MON < AKI < RON.
Here in the US we use AKI and in Europe mostly RON. Any country use MON ?
For example, BMW recommends for it's K1100 motorcycle: a minimum of 89 AKI, 95 RON,

I don't know the octane numbers, but I look at the most expensive gas at the station. 'think its 93.
