Right. As long as you're paying the same for 87 at the HQ station as you'd pay for 91/93 at the budget station.

I've never put anything put 93 in my car. In Virginia, 93 octane is available from pretty much every gas station. Now I can't say I've tested their gas to verify they're not giving me something else but yeah.. just 93. Although, not sure if this is the same everywhere or not, but pretty much all our gas stations state "may contain up to 10% ethanol" FWIW.

Yeah, same here in mid-state. 93 at most every station and the ethanol. I live halfway between Charlottesville and Farmville--the middle of no where. Job brought me out here to manage IT for a couple of prisons, then laid me off. Been stranded out here for a while. It's been a real drag.

Word is that most late model fuel injection systems will adjust to octane below the manufacturer recommendation however performance/mileage may suffer as a result.

My owners manual says 91 is recommended, but 87 is fine. I've seen some people mention that they have found a decrease in performance and gas mileage using sub-91 octane gas..... but that 87 works fine, and it's not felt to hurt the engine.

Terrible if you support BP. The poor people in the Gulf that are still suffering and will for years. I'll never visit a BP station for as long as I live.

I figure that if regular gas is about $4/gal (which it is in California), I might as well spend the extra .20c a gallon and get premium. Comes out to about $3 extra per tank. $70 or $73 per tank...what's the big deal? We drive high-end BMWs...why go cheap on gas when the difference is only a couple of bucks? When gas was $1/gallon, I preferred regular because that extra .20c constituted a 20% increase in price. At $4, the premium fuel is what...5% more?

It makes me laugh when I see people who are willing to drive all the way across town and wait in line to get gas that is .10c cheaper...saving them about $1.50.

In Canada the difference is about 12% difference.....so if the reduction in mileage is in that neighborhood, then it's a wash.?.. But I don't know the true mileage impact.

Here in Wisconsin, 93 Octane usually includes ethanol as does most of our regular and mid-grade. Most of the 91 Octane does not. I usual buy BP and, depending on where in the state the dealer is located, it may or not included !0% of the (usually corn based) alcohol additive. In my experience, both the 91 and 93 provide roughly the same+/-27 mpg highway mileage in my 2007 M61.
