I have been looking for a glove box fuse circuit in my '07 530xi that powers off when you turn off the ignition. I have my radar detector hard wired to one of the fuses there, but whatever circuit I chose does not power down when you shut the car off and if I forget to turn the detector off, I get a High Battery Drain message when I return to the car.

The detector does not have a cigarette lighter plug like most do, or I could have just used the under dash port. Instead it has a flat "C" clip and a bus fuse embedded in line to protect the detector. This setup worked beautifully in my E39, so I'd like to emulate it on my E60. Knowing the socket number(s) would be an immense help or a picture with the unpowered circuits would suffice. I don't think it matters what amperage the circuit is. Thanks!

P.S. Would a circuit tester give me this information? I don't own one, but suppose I could pick one up.

none of the front fuse box outputs shut down with the car. They all rely on the modules to shut down and then the car will put itself to sleep. The only outputs that sleep are in the rear fuse box. the lighter sockets run with the engine.

If you are hell bent on using the front then you can use the remote of the CCC with a relay to switch the front fuse box.

Thanks, Bruce. Looks like the easiest thing would be to get a cig lighter plug, replace my "C" clip, and just plug it into the port under the glove box.

You don't want a big ugly plug and wire sticking out down there. Lower the panel under the glove box where the cig lighter is and you can get to the back side of the wires that power it. Tap into those wires and you have a circuit with enough amps thats shuts off when you want it to. Did my Escort 9500 this way and am now moving it to another car and will do it the same way.

Tap into that with a short section of wire with female plug on it that you find at a parts store. Attach the male end of the plug to your radar unit so that it can be removed/serviced without cutting wires.
