Been running late almost all day. Couldn't find time to get gas until after my last appt. Luckilly there were several gas stations along the way and in the immediate area. Anyway, just thought I'd post this. Anyone go lower?
Also. I noticed that the range indicator on the i-Drive would vary from the one in the instrument cluster. One would read 11 and the other would read 12 and so on. Sometimes the were the same and other times they different. I'd think that they'd be using the same sensor, no?

Just a quick word of caution -
Although I don't own an e60, I have a BMW now and have owned several in the past.
I used to run the fuel level down all the time and went through several fuel pumps in the process. I was advised by more than one mechanic that running the fuel level down to near empty can be hard on the fuel pump (something to do with the pump over-spinning due to fuel starvation) and can cause premature failure.
Don't know if this is still true, but I thought I'd pass this along FWIW.

Good point. I was hoping it wasn't going to get some crap from the bottom of the tank sucked in.
Slight OTT here. Does your E60 give you accurate reading on the consumption figure? My OBC shows 11.4L/100Km, but for several tanks already, my manual calculation had consistently gives me 12L/100Km, thats 5% off the OBC.
Okay here is my problem:
I refuled last night, after the tank got full it showed 473 km.
on some days it shoes 570 km.
in one specific gas station it shows 620 km.
Note that in all cases tank was full, i'm just not getting it.

My assumption is that when you fill up your tank the car reads the last average consumption on your trip computer (XXL/100km) and calculates your distance for your 70L full tank.
These figures depend 100% on how you are driving. When crusing the motorway you will notice that the Km to go figure usually increases because average fuel consumption is lower. In city driving the opposite happens.
I hope this helps
