KYRIACOS: what you said makes sense, I will try to notice that next time.

You're a brave man
no, i'm not. i turned off my ac and drove slowly to the gas station. didn't even want to step on the gas pedal . my friend was so stupid one time. his tank was so empty. he didn't have enough gas and the car stalled right by the gas station driveway . one of the attendants helped him to push the car. i think it's super duper embarrass .

agree ...but the low fuel warning signal/icon is too annoying . plus the clock and the radio station/cd track are gone . but the most annoying thing is my girlfriend, she'll keep telling me to fill up the tank. even w/a quarter left .

i "only" put 92. not because i'm cheap (ok, ok, sometimes i am <_<). just because we only have a few, or less, gas stations have anything above 92.

Just a quick word of caution -

Although I don't own an e60, I have a BMW now and have owned several in the past.?

I used to run the fuel level down all the time and went through several fuel pumps in the process.? I was advised by more than one mechanic that running the fuel level down to near empty can be hard on the fuel pump (something to do with the pump over-spinning due to fuel starvation) and can cause premature failure.?

Don't know if this is still true, but I thought I'd pass this along FWIW.

I have heard the fuel is used to cool the fuel pump. That may be why when you get to 1/8 tank it says "Fuel Reserve"

I like watching the range increase as I drive on the expressway, too. I don't know what the computer program is, but it obviously takes into consideration the past X miles, maybe 50 or 100, when determining range. If I drive around the city a lot, range plummets, but as soon as I hit a long highway drive, range goes up. I get close to 600 mile range on the highway.

It's true that you might associate a high range with a particular gas station, if that station is one you visit right after you get off the motorway.

From the owners manual

Displays the estimated cruising range
available with the remaining fuel. The system
calculates the cruising range based on
operating conditions and the amount of fuel
remaining in the tank. The basis for the calculations
is the average fuel consumption
over the preceding 20 miles/30 km.
