Are you running on E10?
Because if you are the sluggish performance could be a result of contaminated gasoline and not a dirty fuel system. I've heard numerous stories where BMW owners have had to replace fuel pumps, injectors, seals etc because the fuel systems of BMW cars were not up to par with industry standards regarding E10.
If that's the case you might want to try a lubricating/energy enhancing additive. Check out this list: www.e10gasadditives.com/fuel_additive_list.html
The worst thing you can do is add an alcohol to E10. Not only does it ruin performance, mileage, etc but it also voids the manufacturer's warranty. As you can see the main ingredient in Chevron Techron is a stoddard solvent, meaning that you're just adding more solvents into the mix when you should in reality be adding lubricating and power enhancing ingredients.

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.
Huh? Lubricating agents in your gasoline? That doesn't make any sense, when it gets injected into the engine it is atomized and combusted nearly instantaneous.
And power enhancing it most def does not do, this is simply to help clean out any "gunk" that may be built up in your injectors and other misc. parts in the head of the engine.
AND, that link you gave states that the Chevron Techron IS safe for E10 alcohol gasoline.
Furthermore, fuel additives are to there to simply add to the combustion of the gasoline. Ethanol has much lower BTU/gallon than pure gasoline does, hence the higher the Ethanol rating the less BTU energy you are getting. so energy per gallon, E85 < E10.

And the BTU thing refers to MPG not HP

Every so often I notice some hesitation when I accelerate, I bought the car off a lease and it now has 67k miles. A bmw dealer by me is has a special for a fuel injection flush and wondered if it was worth $125.
Thanks.
Thanks.
PS and don't put any of those sketchy liquids in your engine - only the best for our cars
