If you're getting 26mpg @ 65-70mph then something is definitely wrong! Mine would give at least 50% better than that without even trying! If I feather the throttle over quite a few miles I can get over an indicated 50mpg...

Currently at 28.8mpg, Av spd=45mph over the past 1000miles......

.....but I had a visit from E-maps a few months ago, and just can't help flooring it at every opportunity!

Got to grow up..got to grow up..

Sorry tony4449, I didn't see you confirm in any of your posts that the 'units' are set correctly to 'UK Gallons' as opposed to 'US Gallons'?

Yeah sorry, I've just re-read from the beginning.

In which case I'd be looking for another dealer's opinion.

I have a 530d with 68,000 miles on it and i was a bit dissapointed with the mpg (uk). My old 523 was getting about 28mpg. All the figures show around about 35-38 mpg. I have now driven mines for about 2,500 miles and i am getting 37mpg on a long motorway run. On a combined i am getting about 32-33 mpg. If you hammer it i dont expect you will get much change out of 30mpg. I suppose its good for the amount of power the car has but i must say i am still a little bit disappointed.

Sounds about right. Remember, these are 'performance' diesels and you're not going to get stellar mpg...

I'm running mine on BP Ultimate and I think that helps a little too...

I wonder if it's fact or marketing?

Either way... so long as you're happy...

I run mine on BP Ultimate and the car feels more responsive than with standard diesel.....I was exceptionaly sceptical at first and did a series back to back experiments with two tanks of standard and then two tanks of ultimate; every time the car felt more responsive with ultimate, no difference in hard 'off the line' acceleration, just better / more positive torque delivery, it just seems to have more urgency when hoofing it in gear.

In terms of fuel economy, I do also notice that I seem to get 1 to 2 extra work runs out of a tank of ultimate.

Well maybe I'll see if the "name" persuades me. I've always avoided my nearest garage which IS BP because it's more "expensive" but the small differential may be worth it!
