Oops, just saw you guys's posts after the typing. Alright I am willing to have another dealer visit just for this. As a matter of fact, I do hope I am the only having this problem. At least it proves to me there is nothing wrong with BMW's design, just bad part and bad luck.

It has more to do with where you are in the world (latitudes) - They are in South Florida and Hong Kong.

I presume you are in Boston at the moment = sun low in the sky.

There is almost certainly nothing wrong with your sensor.

I don't think is a location problem but rather it depends on the condition when you start your car. If is a dark place (ie indoor garage) the lights will be on when you are out even in the sun.

True, that does make the problem worse.

It should not be that way. The sensor should sense when light and dark and control the headlights accordingly. If you start your car in a parking garage and the lights go on, then drive outside into sunshine the lights should go off.

If not, check the sensor.

Nah too lazy to bring back to the dealer just for that. Got a list of to do's next time when I am in the dealer which includes noise from sunroof, loose chrome trim, some sticky stuff on the lights which i can't remove and maybe ask them to adjust the sensitivity of the auto lights.

If this is the case, that is indeed a design flaw then. You cannot say auto headlights only work when you drive along the equator.

Mine work fine, they do come on when the sun is low in the sky but it is not a problem. You are at a greater change of somebody not seeing you when the sun is low in the sky.

It make no difference if I start driving in the dark they switch off within about 15 seconds of leaving a tunnel and coming into day light.

The only problem I have had is in fog when they switched off, it is recommed to manually turn lights on in fog.

Are you sure you do not have the daytime running lights enabled in Idrive?

My auto headlights turn on almost all the time under bright sunlight. A search showed me it should have been fixed by CIP 16.xx. I have CIP 19.02 already but still have this nagging problem.?

What about you guys? Are you auto headlights work fine? Or do you either simply live with it or never use the auto function?

It is frustrating because auto headlight is not even close to high tech. My 6-year old Camry's auto lights never turned on wrongly even once. (No, I don't miss my old Camry but I do miss its auto lights)

Correct, latest SW still have problem with Auto-Headlight. I just upgrade the SW but auto-headlight still not working correctly.
