3100 is a pretty slim margin for pads. Anyting less than 5-6 k remaining from a visual inspection means its time to change in my book. IMO visual inspections are far more reliable that the sensors.
I agree that sensors are a good practice, but not mandatory as long as you are careful during the pad replacement process. You can also usually go through two sets of pads before you need to do a rotor replacement, unless there is bad scoring.

Don't make that mistake, many here have tried to reuse brake sensors. You have to install new brake sensors when doing a brake job or the I-drive will refuse to reset. Chris These e60's are not like our old e39's.

sfa? i'll be skipping those, my eyes are good enough. i heard the oem rotors were a crapton, but tirerack seems to have blanks for pretty cheap. i would probably consider getting them cryo'd. i wonder how OEM pads come in vs aftermarket.

Just looked up the cost for brake wear sensors from pelican. It's only about $15ea....defintetly an inexpensive part and worth replacing compared to the headache/risk of trying to keep the old ones.

A few days ago I got the OEM front rotors, brake pads & wear sensor replaced at Eurorev. I noticed the computer mileage still says "450 miles" left. So no big deal just had to reset the computer mileage for the front brake pad...that is something I can do when i get home.
Ok now the big deal, after resetting the front brake like 5 times I still get -9000 miles. In addition, the red brake light service indicator now shows up on the dash. I'm pretty sure I follow the procedure correctly. Is the sensor faulty? Something is not connected properly? Not sure if many folks here have experienced similar problem...but found a thread here that is the same issue. Any insights?

I have 42k miles on my 2007 525i and iDrive still shows 13k miles left with the brake pads. I have had the car since new and to my knowledge pad are still original; should I trust the iDrive or get brakes checked. Yes, I have still free maintenance till 50k miles or August 10'.
