The story I heard suggested that Munich made the auto-wiper switch so that in cold climates they don't automatically start when the wiper rubbers are frozen to the screen and get wrenched off.

Would have made them some $ in replacement wipers, but it does make sense.
+1 that does make perfect sense.

yeah but ... the car has a temperature guage built in. In "bongs" when the temperature is below a certain level. If it bongs, cancel the auto-wiper. No bong, leave it in the last position. It's laziness from the BMW programmers rather than logic I expect...!

Well said. If fog lights are making you a safer driver when it's no fog. Then you shouldn't be driving at all.
It seem those driving with their fog lights on with no fog are clearly in a fog, so perhaps they are necessary.

Anyway...hopefully this topic is over (before Iceman gets involved).
...
Since I read every single post made on the forum, even the test forum and the comments in teh gallery...

But I still try not to take part in this discussion...

Iceman, your obsessiveness over this is downright weird. Chill out dude. You're like some kinda freak. Did you lose a loved one to a foglight accident or something?????
