I was under the impression that the BMW's had a warranty for 4yr 50000 miles in the U.S. and over here in Europe its 2 year 24000 miles and these were all inclusive, so I dont understand why you havd to pay, for anyhing.

I have just done an oil service on my 530d and used Mobil 1 0W40 (8.25 litres). Shouldn't we be using specific diesel oils or are they all the same? In my opinion the service intervals are too long, the drain oil was really dirty and the air filter was almost blocked.

Any advice based on experience in the UK dealership network?
I have the 5yr service and maintenance pack. Am I right in assuming there are "friendly" and "not so friendly" dealers who will perform FREE services/oil changes for such customers outside the parameters indicated by IDrive?
Edit: Just been told by my supplying garage that if the condition-based service parameters are not reached then a service visit is needed after two years.
Engine oil for 535d is Fully Synthetic 0W-30 LL04 eg Castrol SLX

Engine oil for 535d actually is LL04 approved and fully synthetic, but not limited to 0w-30 viscosity. according to the list of LL04 approved oils, the viscosities with different approved oils range from 0w-30 over 5w-30 and 5w-40 to 0w-40, depending on the specific oil approved.

If more information is forthcoming I'll use it of course otherwise I'll stick blindly to what I've already been told.
