I got my car at the 8th of July 2005 and now it's time for the first service.
Cost will be 265 euros including the change of brake- and engine oils + filter.
They quoted me 6,5 litres of Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40 oil but I have no idea about
the brake fluids.
Nor will any air filters be changed etc.
Factory garantee will be good until July 2007.
No problem with the car, after updated to CIP 19.2 last fall.
Driven kilometers now, about 15.500.

I thought first oil service was 12 months even if the CBS was still showing Km's to go?

"Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40 oil"
That's a new one on me - I thought that Castrol SLX 0W/30 was not only the recomended oil - but mandated - at least in the USA. <_<
Or was all that palaver just an advertizing tie in?

The Castrol thing is indeed an advertising partnership. In some countries they buy the oil centrally for the dealers, in others, every dealership (or group) does their own deals. I know of a couple of UK dealers taht have been using the Shell, too.
Every oil approved to the spec for your car is fine, really. I'll be using Mobil 1 ESP 5W-30 LL04 approved for my next change early next year.
Ricracing, with your car being a 2005 build, I would assume it is running to Euro IV emission spec. I thought to keep in line with that, BMW was only using Longlife 04 approved low SAPS oils. The Shell Helix Ultra 0W-40, to my knowledge, is not on the LL04 list. Might be worth checking with your dealer again.

I have just done an oil service on my 530d and used Mobil 1 0W40 (8.25 litres). Shouldn't we be using specific diesel oils or are they all the same? In my opinion the service intervals are too long, the drain oil was really dirty and the air filter was almost blocked.
