So I went to test drive and make an offer today on a 2007 550, and my visit didn't go as well as I was hoping (they didn't accept my offer). I was honest and fair, and I guess it just wasn't meant to be. Looking at the CPO checklist and repairs, all they did was replace the rear brakes and change the oil. The car has more than 30k miles, and has never had the tires replaced or anything else (at least not according to the service records). It seems like the $ they put into the car was minimal yet the premium they were asking was excessive. I can't be 100% sure, but I think I know what they paid for the car at auction, and they were asking $7k above that. During negotiations he told me at least 8 times what the blue book value of the car was (don't care) and that the CPO warranty ads $4k to the value of the car. I may be new around here but that sure seems crazy.
Maybe I'm being unreasonable, but I'm willing to wait for the right deal instead of letting someone else dictate the terms. Maybe next time.

Armed with this knowledge, my suggestion is to keep on looking for you ideal car throughout the month and then show up around the 29th or even the 30th of the month, see which of the cars on your list are still available, make it clear to them that you're ready to buy a car for the right price and let the negotiations begin.
