I pulled the trigger last week, after mulling over getting either a 535i or 550i. Knowing me, I know if I got the 535i, the mod bug would bite and make me splurge on a M-tech kit, new wheels, and software tuning...putting me at a total price that I could have gotten a 550i in the first place! Not to mention, I don't have to worry about no stinkin HPFP!

It's my first BMW (coming from 2003 Audi A4 3.0Q) and first black car. My Audi was silver, which was a breeze to maintain...I hope I won't regret owning a black car. I've always wanted one, so I hope this doesn't become one expensive mistake! I take good care of my vehicles, so I'm sure it won't be much different than any other color car.

The power is unbelievable in this car! Quite a contrast to my 3.slow...yet it gets almost the same MPG's!

Thank you guys for helping make this decision.

Upcoming mods: window tint, black grilles, all-weather mats, clear bra.

BTW, do any you guys have any paint protection film installed (aka "clear bra")? Since this car is used and already has a few nicks on the front bumper, I was wondering if I should get it painted and then film applied, or just apply the film without painting. A respray of the front bumper is about $400, and I'm wary of whether a body shop can match the BMW "orange peel" effect in repainting. I'm thinking about putting on Ventureshield.

Here she is after her first wash!

Congrats on the new acquisition. Black cars require a little more care for sure, and never ever go to an automatic carwash! Instant death/swirl/holograms for black paint (well all paint, but black shows more!).

No doubt! I have NEVER taken any cars that I've owned through an automatic carwash...would never dream of doing it and would never recommend it!

First of all congrats on the best BMW 5 you can get besides an M5. Awesome machine.

Secondly, black cars are a labor of love. Forget automatic car washes and start washing by hand. Get some 35% tint all around, too!

P.S. - Nothing is sexier than a shiny, black BMW. Plus, nothing stands the test of time in regards to modern looks for an older body style than black. It helps keep a car aggressive and sporty looking for years!

Congrats on an awesome car! Something about the 550 sport with the kit and wheels that still grabs my attention everytime I see one.

For the clear bra, I personally would respray and then wait a few days for the paint to completely set and then put on the clear bra. Just my opinion.
