There was somebody a while ago that proposed to make nozzles a certain shape, so you cannot make this mistake. For exapmle square nozzle for unleaded, triangular for diesel. Seems to make sense.

I would certainly try to drain most of it.. Any garage can do that for you for less then bmw..

Can't you use a siphon or other type of pump to draw the fuel out the filler instead of paying someone to drain it?

There is a trick with a garden hose.. You have to put it in and suck really hard. Then put it in a bucket wich contains a little bit of diesel and it should run by itself.. I've seen it once with water and it worked.. That would be the cheapest way and the riskiest since you can get diesel in your mouth.. blaaahh..

Seems to me it's still a DIY job -- the hardest part is figuring out what to do with the gas...
