There was somebody a while ago that proposed to make nozzles a certain shape, so you cannot make this mistake. For exapmle square nozzle for unleaded, triangular for diesel. Seems to make sense.
Smart pumps that offer multi-grades and multi-types can be programmed to deliver only a single type of fuel to a nozzle. For example, if there are two nozzles and one has three grades of "petrol" and the other diesel, the diesel nozzle will not pump petrol and vice versa. The first time I ran into one of these pumps, it saved me.

Can't you use a siphon or other type of pump to draw the fuel out the filler instead of paying someone to drain it?

Seems to me like a DIY job...

There is a trick with a garden hose.. You have to put it in and suck really hard. Then put it in a bucket wich contains a little bit of diesel and it should run by itself.. I've seen it once with water and it worked.. That would be the cheapest way and the riskiest since you can get diesel in your mouth.. blaaahh..

That is what a siphon does. They make them with pumps so you don't have to suck on them. Also, there are pumps that are operated with an electric drill, etc.

Seems to me it's still a DIY job -- the hardest part is figuring out what to do with the gas...
