Thanks... The more I live with comfort access, the more I find it a waste of money. I spend more time searching for the key when it is time to get out and lock the car. It is always somewhere different, except in the steering column where it belongs. I refuse to put it there, just because I spent a 1000 bucks so I would not need to.

What for do you need the key to lock the car??? All you do is touch the door handle (of any door) at a certain spot and the car locks and the alarm is armed! Very cool! Just take a look in your manual if you're not sure where you need to place your finger.

The key is always in my pocket and it STAYS there. I work a lot out in the field and in this season with heavy winter work clothes I can leave the key in an inner pocket and open/close my car and never have to worry about loosing the key. At least for me it wasn't a waste of $$$.

Why do you have to find it to lock the car?

The battery has nothing to do with the RFID chip in the key. The chip is passive and you should be able to start the car regardless of the status of the battery. If the battery is dead you just can't use the remote functions like opening / closing. I have comfort access and the fob has a regular button cell in it instead of a rechargable battery. When I took delivery in Munich I asked the rep if the key still works when the battery goes down and he said yes, except for the remote functions.

If the car won't start the RFID chip is most likely damaged, which can be $$$. Good luck with the SA and be careful with the dumbbells next time!

Ya thats right... RFID shouldnt need battery... Thats why i said I think he loosened some parts on the RF chip or like you said broke it when dropping the dumbbells on it.

To repalce the key its $125 from the dealer. or pick one up from E-Bay for $15 - $25 and swap the metal key part. I have instructions on how to reprogram the key yourself somewhere...

A new key will cost $150+. Hopefully it's covered by warranty.

That's why I'm always keeping both keys in my pocket, ...especially at the long trips

You are lucky, you were close to home

Don't you guys have the small grey plastic key and use the adaptor for it in the glove compartment?

No remote on this key. Just RFID for fob start.
