When mine went in for the SZL they initially offered a loaner, but when diagnosed switched to an Enterprise rental. I was in a position to just use my A4, but when it went back to repair the dealer inflicted body damage they gave me an X5 loaner for the duration without prompting.

Bottom line, if they think it will tie up a loaner for a while, it seems they try to put you in a rental, but if it is routine service or a problem they caused, you get a loaner. That's ok in my situation today, but if I didn't have my own back-up I'd politely remind the service adivisor that my sales advisor promised a loaner regardless of out of service time.
Well I suppose the dilemma on that one is that I already accepted the rental...but just realizing how much different it is to drive this thing for 2 weeks vs. what I have been used to. Mind you I had a '00 528i before that. Hmm...although I do recall my sales agent did say I would always be provided a loaner.

I'd jump on that, and how much you miss the e60 experience, and how disappointed you are that you had a failure so early. If I didn't have the A4 to fall back on, they would have had to find me to pry a BMW loaner from my hands.

It was a suzuki forenza...got me to work and back, and thats all it needed to do. In a perfect world, a BWM loaner would have been nice, but I understand on such short notice they didn't have any! Given the fact that other dealers are actually charging owners for rentals, I appreciate the lack of hassle at BMWSF!

Mine got done overnight. I love my SA. Had a 2005 2.5 X3 as a loaner. My dealer has a whole fleet of them, with cold weather package and nothing else. I guess BMW gave them huge discounts on these last year when no one was buying them.

Well update guys....went to my SA. Told him "My rental just isn't gonna work..." was polite and he quickly said, "Hey we got a loaner for you just drop off that rental and come back" Now I am in an '06 325i. Not my baby but hey a lot better than a Dodge. But you know what guys those things come with some cool features that the e60 should have...i.e. aux input in the center console as well as a cigarette lighter. Who would have thought...hmmm. Another cool one is the power folding mirrors and entry lighting on all doors. Ah well I am sure those will get into the '08 e60s.

My car was at the dealership for ablut a week and I was given a X3 to drive. This will probably vary by dealer but my dealer has been very good about this. I get a BMW loaner when I have other cars, not purchased at this dealer, in for service (2001 330ci and 2003 745Li.

Why are they keeping your cars. I went to my dealer yesterday.(Problem started on sunday night). I spent half an hour waiting. They connected the car to Diagnostics machine.(so they could get an print out for warranty issues) Then ordered my part.(Which will take at least 2 weeks shipping+customs to arrive). Then they sent me home and told me to drive moderately and responsibly as these systems are not mandatory for driving. So I'll drive my car with the broken sensor for at least 2 weeks.
