I just experienced this problem this morning. It came on about 15 minutes into an hour drive to work. It went on and off for the entire ride. The car still ran at speed limit, but I did notice the engine was running a little rough. I left work, restarted the car and the warning was off and stayed off for the hour it took me to get back home. I guess I should take it to the dealer so they can see if it registered any codes. The car only has 1700 miles on it.
Sounds EXACTLY like what happened to me, 535xi. I was at about 500 mi. The first two times in the shop did not fix the issue. Third time seems to be a charm, though. You might have your maint guy call Jarrod at Bobby Rahal BMW in Pittsburgh (724-941-7000) to compare notes. My car was in for a week, and they gave me a loaner. But since I got it back the problem has not recurred. Jarrod told me that they had been in contact with BMW engineers trying to figure out the problem (fuel injectors, fuel pumps, etc.). At least your maint guy won't have to start from scratch. Good Luck.

Let me know how you make out...

Dropped it off at the shop today and they replaced the #1 cylinder fuel injector. The car drove fine on the way home. I had forgotten that I also got an antilock braking system error a month or so back. They picked up a code for that also and recalibrated the steering angle sensor, whatever that is.

Mine improved after an injector was replaced. But the problem recurred, then 2 more injectors and 2 fuel pumps... Hope your problems are done...

sounds just like the fault our 07 525 had - BMW just replaced all the injectors... sad at 14k miles but yours really is very-early-failure!

All done under warranty luckily for me
