Hi, I have an e60 in Hungary and I read always the forum about software update
in the car. I still have the original soft. in my car 2003. december
I have 2 questions:, is it free (change to the new soft) always?
and I know how the Mercedes do the upgrade, they put a new disc to the front cd
drive.. but how do the BMW?
Thank you for the answers, berkar

1) Officially, it's not free. However, if you claim to have one or more of the problems that the upgraded release will fix, most dealers will do it for free.
2) The CD drive isn't used for this. There is a connector somewhere (maybe near hood release?) that is used in the service bay.
Hope this helps,
Sam

Anyways, software updates are done by a direct connection with the MOST.
I think it is also possible to do it through the OBC (but not the CD slot), but it takes waaaaay longer.
Don't forget:
Don't fix what aint broke!!!
Only get the software update if you HAVE problems, or you really want something the new software can do and yours can't. Then claim to have a problem, like freezing idrive etc., and you get the software update under warranty.
