Wish you would have bought your BMW Battery Tender from me. Mine has never even been opened. Good luck.

I'm on my second battery already. I replace my first one in 2009 or about 3 years after the in service date. The SA wouldn't cover it under warranty because of the daily mileage BS, so I had to shell out the $400.

After reading all the discussions about replacing batteries/registering in the forum, I think I'm going to be cautious and just go with the dealership replacement for about $400. I was going to check the indicator window on the battery because there is an indication for "replace the battery". Previously it had been black indicating "not fully charged".

Was wondering if this indication sounds like a sign of failing battery, and how long I have before things really go bad?

Bought my battery at Sears $140 and replaced it myself about 2 months ago, no need to register. In Colorado batteries tend to last longer then in the deep south or far north, so you should get 4-5 years out of a non-OEM battery vs maybe 5-6 years from an OEM, and less than half the cost. Save the dough and use it on something else!

Just bought my battery from Walmart for about 100 bucks (for 2006 530xi) and installed it myself in about 15mins. At first there was a warning light for 4x4 and DSC however after driving for about 5mins, it went away. Everything works perfectly fine now and I haven't had any problems so far. Dealer was trying to charge 4-500 bucks for everything which is just insane. I figured it was time to replace since the battery was from 2005 and after having the car on without starting the engine for a little while, the car would not start afterwards and the date/time would reset.
